Event Design Internship
In 2015 I was given the amazing opportunity to work for a bespoke event design company called Fiona Leahy Design, on a 6-week internship.
Here I had the chance to work alongside industry professionals designing events for Charlotte Olympia, Urban Junkies, and personal weddings. I assisted the team in sourcing furniture, venues, and material for all of their current events.
This internship also gave me the opportunity to learn key administrative skills such as taking office calls, responding to emails, negotiating with venue hire companies, arranging meetings and venue viewings. I also worked hard to organise the storage unit which the company used to store all of their events materials such as tables, chairs, lights, soft furnishings and decorative materials. This allowed for a quicker process when gathering materials for an event, as we didn't have to rummage through unorganised piles.
I tried to make the most of this opportunity and absorb as much knowledge and information as I could. It was an invaluable experience, which gave me a clear understanding of what it is like to work in the event design industry, which could be another career which I look into fulfilling.
